On June 16, MP Maurice Vellacott (Saskatoon-Wanuskewin) spoke on the introduction of Private Member’s Bill C-422 for a presumption of equal parenting. This bill, if passed, will direct courts in regard to divorce, to make equal shared parenting the presumptive arrangement in the best interests of the child, except in proven cases of abuse or neglect.

Welcome to the Canadian Equal Parenting Council. PDF Print E-mail

We are very proud to pursue presumptive equal parenting on behalf of our 38 member organizations encompassing a range of issues related to family and social justice in Canada.

Equal Parenting for children results in equal parenting time and equal parenting responsibility for decision making in the event of a divorce or other breakdown of the family unit.

Our emphasis is on the right of the child to continue to enjoy contact, nurturing, support and security in its widest sense, from all parents and grandparents, regardless of gender. Children should be able to benefit from all each parent and their extended family has to offer.

Up to now, the movement has lacked a central, reasonable and credible voice that can explain what equal parenting groups seek to achieve and why their cause is just.

Thanks to the CEPC and the hard work of our member organizations, equal parenting is currently enjoying a revival in the eye of the media, politicians and the public. Recent public polls show a 78% majority of Canadians agree with the need for a presumption in both Federal and Provincial legislation.

In these pages, you will learn who we are, our goals and aspirations, and our mission statement.

We will provide education, resources and information to aid in furthering our goal for happy, healthy children to become happy, healthy adults.

Education and advocacy are key components in these efforts and we are happy to have you join us, as a member of one of our organizations, united in purpose & spirit.
